 TIGERS!

This image sequence shows what you might expect from different 900/950 zoom ratios with and without the teleconverter.

I was poised to make history. I'd built up some confidence with those elephants, and I had snapped off a quick full-wide and full-zoom sequence and was quite in-expertly changing lenses, getting ready to grab a beautiful telephoto shot that would make this textbook example complete when the tiger, somehow, uncannily sensed my presence.

After turning his back, he spent the next half hour passed out in the grass. Even the very patient film photographer next to me got bored and left. I tried, believe me, but if it were this easy every time, we'd all be working for National Geographic.

The first image is standard full-wide position.

ABOVE - Full Wide with no Teleconverter
 The second is full zoom.

ABOVE - Full Zoom, still with no Teleconverter

The last is full zoom + Teleconverter.

Clearly, a cropped version of the non-Teleconverter shot above would be a much better photo than this one, but maybe I can suggest the potential of being able to fill the frame with your subject using a Teleconvertor, even if I can't get this particular tiger interested in the subject.

ABOVE - Full Zoom with the Teleconverter installed. I hate to say it, but this big cat was lazy. He stood up just long enough to turn over and sun the other side.
