Jet Lag is a common problem faced by travelers
when crossing time zones during air travel. Crossing time
zones is not all about confusing the body clock but it has
to adjust to new time, patterns of light and activity.
With more time zones you cross, it becomes harder for body
to adjust.
The worst part of this is not all body functions adjust
at the same rate; for example, your sleep/wake cycle might
adjust more quickly to the new time zone than your digestion,
which may be on yet another schedule. |
Confusing the clock like this causes mental and physical upset,
a situation we call jet lag.
People generally face conditions like disorientation, fatigue,
excessive tiredness, swollen hands and feet, headaches, digestive
problems after a jet lag. The severity of jet lag affecting you
mainly depends on the direction you travel. Several studies have
proved that flying westward is better than flying eastward as it
is more difficult for your body to adjust to â??losing timeâ??
when you journey east than to â??gaining timeâ?? when
you fly from east to west.
Some people say that the body takes one day per time zone to fully
recover from the jet lag. But if a person is on a 12 hour flight
that crosses 6 time zones all for a 6 day trip, it means body will
recover by the time of their return journey. Whether you are on
a business trip or flying on leisure vacation, you need to arrive
fresh at your destination.
