There are several areas where problems arise
when ordering doors, frame and hardware for Hotels and Motels.
Wall Thicknes; While the plans may specify a certain thickness
for walls, many times the local codes could require something
different. Having your superintendant review the wall thickness
and noting any changes can save time and money. |
Rough openings need to be reviewed with your sub-contractors so
they understand the complete construction process. Sometimes they
make the rough opening the correct size but they do not allow for
a gip-crete pour on the upper levels, that is standard with some
types of construction. The end result means that your doors and
or frames may need to be cut on the job site or worse, re-ordered
at a substaintial cost of money and time.
Handing; handings of doors is critical because doors are pre-cut
at the factory to accept the locksets that are specified and usually
the doors are beveled. The beveling of the doors makes the doors
easier to fit into the fames so even if you could reverse the doors
they would not fit as well in the opening. Handings should be double
checked by the superintendent and the supplier should be notified
as early as possible of any changes to avoid extra charges or re-orders.
Hardware can also be handed. Double check your handing to make sure
that the correct hardware is supplied.
Door Schedules; You should always receive a door schedule from
your supplier. This should be the final document that doors and
frames are ordered from. (Your plans will almost always have changes)
When changes are made, request a new door schedule to show those
changes. Once you sign the schedule you should expect that those
will be the doors and frames that you will get.
