We love dressing up and particular occasions give an excuse to copy characters from the past. For example Halloween allows us to recreate witches and wizards from legendary times and have a party in which we play all sorts of Halloween games.

Theatrical costumes tell the story about characters from the past, and costumes give us clues about the character. The costume designer is asked to create costumes that represent actual period clothing of the time. Halloween has probably been the one event that has drive the love of costume to such great heights. Trends show that we indulge more then than Christmas, in fancy dress activity.

The festival of Halloween gives us the excuse to totally indulge in the recent costumes trend. It is has strongly taken hold of popular culture. Don't think that Halloween only means witches and ghouls. In fact all character costumes sell strongly in the build up to Halloween. Kids will pester for the latest batman or Spiderman outfit for that up and coming Halloween party and they simply must have it. No wonder it's a bonanza for commercial companies

Other holidays have elements of costumes involved in them. People dress up as elves or Santa for Christmas, and occasionally show the holy family in a recreation of the night Jesus was born. You may see a leprechaun, or the Easter Bunny at the mall during the month prior to their specific holiday. A new costume theme is cosplay, where costumes are designed on video game characters. In both America and Japan this trend has taken a strong grip on game players imagination and there are even judging events that take place alongside anime conventions. All participants are judged on how accurately they have designed their costume together with audience reaction.

The costume and fancy dress scene today has become far richer and more diversified. It incorporates characters from the past and those from the world of virtual reality and offers all these online with speedy delivery.
