Round Robin Demonstrations
The October 1999 GENERAL MEETING featured a series of Round Robin Demonstrations by Midori Members Gerry Fields, Dave Butt and Joel Miller.
The Round Robin format always provides plenty of action and information
Dave Butt's demonstration on Designing Deadwood provided information on how to plan and implement a realistic treatment of
deadwood on a bonsai. He discussed why deadwood appears as a tree matures, the importance of developing a plan for creating deadwood, and the tools and methods involved.
Gerry Fields discussed the process of Collecting Trees, the materials required,
and aftercare. You can read more about Gerry's experiences and tips in the writeup.
Joel Miller
educated members on his experiences with Spot Spitter Irrigation, and the potential it holds for applications in watering bonsai.
Larry White provided a tip on cleaning bonsai containers for reuse. While we usually clean our pots with Scotch 3M pads or
Rust Erasers and then apply a light coating of mineral or vegetable oil, Larry discovered somewhat by accident that by applying a light coating of oil first helps to pad or eraser do its
work more quickly. He was able to clean up this pot and remove its hard water deposits in just a few minutes.
Midori Fall Show Pictures in the Gallery!
October 2nd was the date of our Fall Show at St. Edwards. Mild weather cooperated with the
outdoor show and we welcomed dozens of guests and neighboring clubs to the courtyard event. More details on the plant sales, displays and
workshops inside.
