Yamato Bonsai Club presented a wonderful show October 16th and 17th.  If you don't see your tree here, please don't be disappointed.  There is a limited amount of space and not all the trees could be photographed.   This page may take a few minutes to load. I guarantee it's worth waiting for.

This Corkbark Pine is growing with its roots wrapped around the stone.  The aged bark and exposed roots emphasize the wild character of a high mountain tree.  The planting might benefit from a less refined container.

This crabapple's glazed, white pot complements the graceful trunkline of this fruiting tree. The distribution of fruits is great, and this tree will continue to improve as the branch ramification increases.

John Uchida is the sensei of Yamato Bonsai Club, and also one of its founders.  He's seen here with the Sunday demonstration planting, which consists of three black pines.

This irregular, blue-glazed container really suits this olive.

A very interesting saikei planting using Ibigawa type stones.

A venerable Korean Hornbeam.  I'd love to see this tree in a shallower, slightly wider container.

A broom-style Japanese Zelkova.  It's great to see this style becoming more popular here in the U.S.  This tree is young in development,  but has a great start

A well-proportioned Chinese Juniper.  The branch spacing is very good, but the tree could benefit from some refinement in the crown, where the foliage is very dense.

I enjoyed this Japanese Maple a lot.  Too often, decidous trees are styled as if they were pines with their branches flattened into tiers like a pagoda. This tree really captures the graceful, refined appearance of a Japanese Maple.  See how the trunk turns into limbs, branches and twigs of decreasing diameter?

My fiancee Kathy Nguyen walking the aisles.  Next time you see her, please thank her for putting up with all this picture-taking, and carrying the gear!

A literati style Japanese Black Pine with accent planting.  I enjoyed this arrangement.   The placement of the accent really emphasizes the space to the right of the pine, and sets a quiet, reflective mood of loneliness.
